REGNUM REGIS - The enquiries of the reign of Alfonso II (1211-1223)
REGNUM REGIS - The royal inquiries during the reign of Alfonso II (1211-1223) is a database compiled from the surviving documentary corpus of the royal inquiries conducted during the reign of Afonso II (1211-1223). Bearing in mind the primary objective of such surveys, namely to survey as exhaustively as possible the assets and rights belonging to the monarch and, in relation to these, the extent of the assets and rights that had been usurped in the meantime by the various lay or ecclesiastical powers, priority was given to processing, recording and systematizing the information that, as a whole, allows us to clarify these purposes more directly: property, ownership-entities, rights levied and/or usurped, types of usurpation, ecclesiastical organization, etc. For each territorial unit surveyed (usually the parish), the corresponding text of the royal inquiries and the archival references where a particular document can be found are also made available, in order to give the user direct access to the source and to all the information it contains. This data will also allow you to access the exact location of a particular text within a manuscript, using the links available on this page.
The database has been designed so that multiple cross-searches can be carried out between the various fields, allowing the data entered in the different fields to be explored in greater depth, thus facilitating a more detailed inspection of the relevant text of the survey.
